How can I beat imposter syndrome as a pet business owner?

Imposter Syndrome for pet professionals: How to cope with self-doubt in business

April 22, 20253 min read

We’ve all had those tough days 😩...

The kind that push you to the edge.

You launch a service you’ve been so excited about… and all you get is tumbleweeds.

One of your regulars tells you they're moving away...

A client cancels their appointment with you...

And then, just when you think it can’t get any worse, you receive a shitty email from a difficult client – despite doing everything you could for them.

It feels like the whole world is against you 😞.

You’re riddled with doubt and a fair dose of self-pity.

'I'm not sure I can cope with all this...'

...is the thought running through your head.

Here’s the big secret about Imposter Syndrome in pet professionals

I know the big secret...

...You know? the B-I-G secret.

➡️ The fact that how you are feeling is normal ⬅️.

Yeah, that one...

You see, it's not just you!!

Everyone who has ever run a business has felt the same frailties and insecurities.

You're normal.

Yes, you might have had an exceptional dump of bad luck at some point (maybe even right now?!) — and it's normal, and very common, to doubt your own ability to succeed.

Especially when you suffer setbacks.

It's normal, at times, to feel that you're not able to cope.

It's normal to think (falsely!) that these challenges and problems (whatever they are for you at that particular time) aren't felt by and dealt with by 'the successful ones'.

It's normal to think that everyone else is somehow better than, more successful than, or more capable than you.

But here’s the truth

⚠️ It’s also complete bollocks. ⚠️

Just because you think it, doesn't make it true.

Behind every success story, every new client and every £ made, sits a business owner with all the same worries, insecurities and concerns as you.

Imposter Syndrome is everywhere.

It's not just you!!

In fact, some of the most wildly successful people out there – even those winning major awards and reaching incredible milestones – still doubt themselves.

Sometimes they convince themselves that their success is a fluke...

That it somehow doesn’t count...

Can you imagine?

But to them, those are very real thoughts 💭.

Doubt.
Insecurity.
Worry.

They’re a natural part of running a pet business (or any business, for that matter).

It’s not about pretending those feelings don’t matter.

I just want to normalise them.

Because they are NORMAL!

✅ Everyone thinks they can't cope at some point.

✅ Everyone feels overwhelmed from time to time.

✅ Everyone worries.

And anyone that pretends that's not true, is lying.

You're normal.

It's normal.

I'm normal.

We all feel these things.

How to overcome Imposter Syndrome in your pet business

The cure, is pretty straightforward:

👉 Recognise that you're normal.

👉 Accept that shit happens – it always will – and it's how you deal with it that will be the making of you.

👉 Deal with the shit by taking action.

Action is what gets you out of your own head.

Because it puts you back in control.

Take action... And you'll soon stop worrying.

Imposter Syndrome can't survive in a brain that's focused on doing (the right) stuff.

It literally disappears... (pooof!).

Because taking action kills worry 😵.

(How else do you think soldiers through the centuries have coped in battle?)

Yet another reason I recommend pet professionals to step out of the weeds of the day-to-day ‘doing’ and create some focused time to work ON their business instead of just IN it!

💥 Taking action ON your business will kill your Imposter Syndrome 💥
